India Lennon, Teacher of the year 2019Ms, India Lennon was named the 2019 Teacher of the Year (TOY) by the staff of Pine Forest Middle School. Ms. Lennon is a seventh-grade English Language Arts teacher and team leader of the Navigators Team. (She may be more familiar to you as Ms. Russell.) This is Ms. Lennon’s 3rd year as a Raider!

As Teacher of the Year, she will be eligible for the Cumberland County level teacher of the year competition. Please congratulate her for this great accomplishment. We are very excited to have her represent our school!

Ms. Bozeman would like to thank the battle of the books team for bringing home the trophy for 4th place. They were outstanding in every aspect of the game- in their knowledge and their sportsmanship! It was an exciting day of competition with only one point separating 1st and 2nd Place teams.  Our team:   6th grade- Megan; 7th grade- Merry, Kylie, Jordan, Michael; 8th grade – Kameryn, Benson, Ana, Jasmine, Jordan, Patricia.

Congratulations to Mr. Starlings’ students, Jasmine M. – trombone and Jasmine L. – bass clarinet, for winning NC All State Band auditions last weekend.  Mr. Artley had 4 orchestra students accepted into Eastern NC All-State orchestra.  Justice S.–Viola, Patricia N.–Viola, Benson W.–Cello and Allison H.–Cello. We are so proud of our music department and the students for this great accomplishment!

Daylight Saving begins Sunday, March 10th. Don’t forget to “spring forward” by setting your clock ahead one hour.

  • Monday, March 11 – Softball and Baseball game home vs. SLMS. ELA Remediation after school. Science Olympiad ?
  • Tuesday, March 12- Today is the last day to order the 2019 Eighth grade graduation t-shirt for $10.  They are black with gold lettering. The 8th grade student names will be typeset in gold on the back of the shirt. Math Remediation after school.Track @ RRCMS
  • Wednesday,  March 13- Soccer game @ MWMS.
  • Thursday, March 14 –  Science Remediation after school. Softball and Baseball a@ WOMS.
  • Friday, March 15 – End 3rd Nine Weeks. Please make sure your student has returned all missing assignments by the teacher’s deadline.

Additional thoughts:

  • Monday, March 18th is a student holiday and optional teacher workday.
  • Talent show is on March 26th at 5.30 pm in the auditorium.  Admission is $2.00 dollars
  • The deadline to pay Ms. McLamb for your yearbook is March 27, 2019. Online purchases will be accepted through March 31st. These dates are firm.

Please join us in Congratulating the following Math teachers who scored in the top 25% of our state: Mr. Bryan, 6th grade; Ms. Sandoval, 7th grade; Ms. Jackson and Ms. McLamb, 8th grade; and Ms. Mixon, 6th-8th grade. The proposed school calendars for the 2019-2020 school year and the 2020-2021 school years are available to be reviewed at the front office of the school.  Eighth grade classes received information from our counselors this week about Choice Schools. Ask your child what opportunities they learned about. For parents wishing to learn more, there is a Choice Fair at EE Smith on Saturday, February 2nd. Details are available at both the PFMS and CCS web pages.

  • Monday, January 21 – Student / Teacher Holiday
  • Tuesday, January 22 – Today is a dress down day for all pass holders.  Basketball away at Southview. Wresting @ home vs. Southview. The Quiz Bowl team will meet until 4:00 pm in Ms. Cooper’s room.  Please make sure your rides pick you up promptly at 4:00 pm in the front parking lot.
  • Thursday, January 24 – Basketball @ home vs. Mac Williams. Wresting away @ Mac Williams.
  • All District Band Auditions at Mac Williams Middle School on Saturday, February 2nd beginning at 8 AM. Everyone auditioning should be working on the solo and sight reading.

Additional thoughts/Upcoming Events:

  • Battle of the Books students should be reading 20-30 minutes every day. After completing a novel, they should practice on MyBOBTeam.com. These scores will help determine the number of rounds they earn during competition.
  • The Cumberland County Schools’ (CCS) Choice Fair will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at E. E. Smith High School. Families are encouraged to come out and explore all of the elementary, middle, and high school Choice Program options for the 2019-2020 school year. A meeting for parents of Albritton Middle School 8th graders will be held at 9:30 am at E. E. Smith School. The Inclement Weather Date is Saturday, February 9, 2019.
  • Please download the CCS App to your devices if you have not already done so. When have inclement weather, you will get alerts and the most current information this way.

  • Monday, November 19 –It’s Motivational Monday at PF. Be sure to ask your child what they learned in homeroom! All 7th and 8th Grade Band students will complete their All-County Band Project.  Students will ride two buses to Mac Williams Middle School and parents will pick up their children from there at the conclusion of the project.  Good Luck Raider Band Members! Builders club will meet until 4:30 pm. Art club will meet in room 4 from 2:40-3:40. Please bring colored ornament sheets so we can assemble them. Please pick up out front promptly at 3:40.
  • Tuesday, November 20 – Dress down day for pass holders. Battle of the books will test in the morning during homeroom. Progress Reports go home.  Our “Giving Tree” (formerly the Angel Tree) will be ready today. Stop by the lobby and adopt a PF child (or their sibling) today. All unwrapped gifts are due to Ms. Borkowski in Student Services on Friday, December 14th. No Science Olympiad practice today.
  • Wednesday, November 21 – Make-up day / Regular school day. Battle of the Books (BOB) students should pick up their take-home test in the library before leaving for Thanksgiving.
  • Thursday, November 22 –Happy Thanksgiving
  • Friday, November 23 –  Holiday for students and teachers

We would like to congratulate Mr. Starling and the 36 students who competed in all-county honors band auditions Nov. 19th. Eight (8) of our talented students secured FIRST CHAIR (1 alternate), 9 students secured 2nd Chair, and 2 secured 3rd chair. We are so proud of you!

  • Monday, November 26 – BOB test due to Ms. Bozeman. Art Club will meet in room 4 from 2:40 – 3:40. Please pick up out front. Thank you.
  • Tuesday, November 27 – the scheduled Science Olympiad events will meet until 4:00 pm. PFMS Skate night is tonight from 5:30-7:30 pm at Eutaw skating rink. This event is NOT a drop off event, parents need to hang out with their kids. Parents do not have to pay to sit with their kids. $7 fee for any skater, includes $5 entry/$2 skate rental… We’ll have spirit wear for sale that night.  The first 25 kids there receive a free bag of cotton candy.  Come support your school and “Burn off that bird”
  • Thursday, November 29 –the scheduled Science Olympiad events will meet until 4:00 pm. BB @ NJ Wrestling Home
  • Friday, November 30- Our students will compete in the school-wide Spelling Bee today at 12:45 pm

Bobbi Marker

Mrs. Bobbie Marker was named the 2018 Teacher of the Year (TOY) by the staff of Pine Forest Middle School. an eighth-grade science teacher on the Trailblazers Team. She a Science Olympiad coach and SIT Representative.

As Teacher of the Year, she will be eligible for the Cumberland County level teacher of the year competition.  Please congratulate her for this great accomplishment. We hope the county recognizes her amazing teaching skills!
